Day 8 - 9.8. Weather is changing

As usual woke up at 8 a.m. and had quick breakfast. I picked up a new place to visit so instead of continuing directly to Vik, we made turn to Laki area. One of the most deadly volcano in Iceland. But as usual we little bit underestimated F road, the whole trip took more than 3 hours and it was less then 100 kilometer drive. Also from this moment we lost good weather, at laki it started only with fog. Even though Laki area is interesting  with big volcano and the field of 135 small ones. Laki eruption in 1783 killed 25% of people and 50% of livestock.

Top of Laki was dipped in fog so we made only walk around to lava caves and to lava fields. Taking the way back we saw also a volcano lake. As written in the guide nothing shows here how deadly this place was hundred years ago.

Laki weather changed more rapidly and rain joined heavy fog. When we reached Vik weather was absolutely hostile so we quickly checked Reynisdrangar and then hurried to Dyrholaey.
Reynisdrangar from Vik

and from Dyrholaey cliff

Dyrholaey was a big surprise for us, first of all breathtaking view, amazing cliffs and hundreds maybe thousands of birds (mainly puffins). Unfortunately the second cliff above with lighthouse was hidden in such fog that visibility was almost zero.

Puffins everywhere

So we decided to leave smog and continued to Skogafoss, last significant waterfall on our way. Here the access is little bit different you can go up to the hill to see falling water from the top or take a deadly shower directly under the waterfall.
Skogafoss
From Skogafoss we took ride to our last wild accommodation at Rjupnavellir under Hekla volcano. I will speak on behalf of the whole group, that this accommodation was No. 1, a miracle or a dream, there are no other words. For 14 000 ISK, we had a small luxury cottage with our own well equipped kitchen and a bathroom. The cottage had beds for 6 people so for us it was like Hilton.

Local guy sold us few eggs for breakfast and then we had time to enjoy this luxury. We had even a leather sofa inthe cottage; the only missing thing was a satellite and a big flat TV (and everything in the middle of nowhere). I have to mention that we had my favorite chicken with pepper for dinner.
